O Business Process Management (BPM), poderá ser a solução utilizada para a gestão de processos neste tipo de organizações, de modo a diminuir erros e falhas técnicas e humanas.O objetivo deste artigo é estudar a importância e a necessidade da implementação da Business Process Modelling and Notation (BPMN) nas instituições de saúde, através da análise estatística de dados provenientes da aplicação de um inquérito a profissionais que exercem a sua atividade nessas mesmas instituições, avaliando, entre várias vertentes, o seu conhecimento dos processos realizados na instituição e serviço, e a facilidade com que po-dem consultar manuais de procedimentos, em caso de dúvida.Sendo esta uma notação usada em contexto de negócios e na área da gestão, a literatura e estudos realizados é escassa, quando relacionamos o BPMN à área da saúde.Embora apenas 20,6% dos profissionais inquiridos tenham conhecimento deste tipo de notação, 72,2% acha vantajosa a implementação de um método que defina e caracterize os processos realizados na instituição onde exerce. Mais ainda se conclui, que quando ana-lisadas as médias das repostas relacionadas com a confiança, facilidade e rapidez com que estes profissionais consultam um manual de procedimento, estas são relativamente baixas.ABSTRACT: Currently, a healthcare institution, of whatever type, needs a detailed management of all the processes involved, so that these organizations and their professionals can provide their services more efficiently, and archive the goals of the institution. In health institutions, the processes aren’t identified, procedure’s manuals are difficult to interpret and often, the professionals don’t have time to consult them. Business Process Management can be a possible solution, used for managing the processes in this type of institution, decreasing human and technical errors.This article aims to study the importance and the need to implement the Business Pro-cess Modelling and Notation (BPMN) in a healthcare institution, through the analysis of statistical data from the application of an inquiry to the different kind of professionals who exercise their daily activities in these organizations, evaluating their knowledge about the processes in their institution and service, and how easy they can consult procedure’s ma-nuals in case of doubt.Being this a notation used in the business and management fields, the literature and studies realised are few, when we corelate BPMN and the health field.Although only 20,6% of the professionals inquired know this notation, 72,2% thinks that the implementation of a method that defines and characterises the processes perfor-med in the service and institution where they work, is advantageous.
