Resumo: This paper looks over the perpetual fight that low density regions must face in what regards the emergence of economic opportunities, employment, income and production growth. It is known that tourism demand for nature and protected areas is increasing in this more and more urban world, what can open some doors for innovation to take place. The project we’ve been working on is focused on sustainable tourism practices in a protected area (Malcata Mountain Reserve), via electric mobility, which is known for its zero emission, non-polluting and noise free travelling. A broader study is taking place under the Interreg Funding Program, known as Moveletur Project. Our goals are to sponsor a model of sustainable and green tourism for visitors of natural areas, to produce a network of green tourism itineraries linking places of natural and/or cultural value using rechargeable vehicles and to encourage tourism sector entrepreneurs with a new service for their activity. Combined work with other natural areas is essential to increase outcomes. After the conclusion of project (by the end of 2018) there will be better information concerning natural and cultural values that natural areas hold and that can be used for tourists’ pleasure, there will be a more dutiful way of doing tourism in natural areas, expectantly it will address job creation and improved territorial competitiveness, tourism experiences will have more quality and, finally, using technological features, will support smart villages further development.

Resumo: The implementation of the Bologna process in higher education leads to rethinking the teaching-learning assumptions. Higher education today is focused on curricula, teaching-learning processes, subjects and course programmes attending to European credits system, teachers’ qualification and training, academic success and scholar results, performance standards, assessment of institutions, assessment of skills (and not merely knowledge).
In 2010 a project (Construction of Learning | ConstAp) was developed in the Polytechnic Institute of Castelo Branco, Portugal. The main goal was to motivate the adoption of changes concerning classroom methodologies and students’ autonomous workload guidance in the scope of the Bologna process implementation.
This paper presents a proposal of pedagogical intervention to deal with the mentioned objectives, a project applied in a specific tourism course. The paper presents the first results collected regarding the project’s implementation and seeks to impart a methodology that can be applied to similar courses.

Many organizations are struggling to keep abreast with the rapid changes in infrastructure and practices. Disruption, competitive pressure and anticipation of needs are challenges that lead management to innovate, but their focusing efforts are put in technological and product innovation. The issue is that with the shortening of product and technology life cycle those innovations create value for less and less time.
Discussions and initiatives around innovation have been escorted by a growing literature that presents, research and examines approaches to product, service, process, business model and management innovations. Although useful, those discussions and initiatives may end up missing a significant opportunity, under-exploited and increasingly important – the institutional innovation. The possibility of reviewing the state of the art of institutions performance and developing the relational architecture within and between institutions, revealing the trade-offs among them, is the starting point of the work presented, paying due attention to knowledge, learning, creativity, networking and the territory. What we seek to determine is whether a new institutional architecture allows institutions to learn faster to implement this learning more effectively, for their benefit, for the benefit of the network(s) which one(s) is(are) connected with and for the benefit of the community where it is located.
Realizing the importance of this type of innovation, the research carried out discusses the contribution of institutional innovation for the development of tourism in low density territories, focusing on the role played by geoparks. To achieve this goal, the perception of the changes occurring in tourism, both the supply the demand side, are fundamental in order to position the case study - the Naturtejo Geopark, Portugal - under these dynamics. Since the actions of this institution are reflected in space, understanding on territorial issues has also been developed, with the particularity to distinguish the specificities of Low Density Territories due to territory whereb the case study is located.
The conclusions drawn show some poor articulation between regional actors and a high level of dependence on public intervention, limiting the impact that the Naturtejo Geopark produces in the territory. We can also refer to an underutilization of existing capabilities in the region, whether in terms of actors’ thickness, or in supply side structure and integration. The Geopark’s ability to establish 'its' territory is undeniable; the recognition of this territory by the community (residents, businesses, tourists) is, however, something that requires a greater effort by the management of the institution.
In tourism, interactivity is essential. The ability to articulate dynamic forces is so important that, if absent, can reverse the entire logic of development. A proper conceptualization involving the various actors - institutional, economic, financial, business – in a synergistic network of cooperation will catapult the region as a whole to new production thresholds, specially attending to the resources available.

Resumo: This study explores the nature of the relationship between market orientation and business performance and the mediating role of customer loyalty in this relationship. Empirical analysis was based on a sample from the Western European hotel industry. Research results indicate that market orientation has a positive direct effect on business performance and that the effects of market orientation on business performance are mediated through customer loyalty. Market orientation produces a positive effect on customer loyalty, which in turn has a positive effect on business performance, showing that market orientation has a significant and positive indirect effect on business performance. These findings suggest potential major implications for the hotel industry. For example, by developing a market-oriented organization, hotels could produce positive effects on customer loyalty and consequently on their business performance.
