Autor: Santos, Domingos
Resumo: The concept of the smart city acquired increasing expression and has become a strongly discussed field in the recent past among, either the research community, either the political stakeholders. Studying and intervening on the urban dynamics requires a shift from focusing on forms of knowledge and innovation outputs towards focusing on learning and innovation dynamics, exploring the diverse dimensions of knowledge building and promoting social capital. This paper aims, first, to contribute to clarify the meaning of the word 'smart' in the context of urban development through an approach based on an in-depth literature review of pertinent studies and then, to establish the links with the dimensions of entrepreneurship that can help guide more effective urban development and planning policies, illustrating with the Smart Coimbra initiative. Besides the paper aims to inform and improve policy-making on the subject of promoting entrepreneurial mindsets and contexts, speculating on some principles and guidelines that may help fertilise urban dynamics and build smarter and more entrepreneurial cities.

The present study aims to develop the understanding of technical-tactical situations for an effective development of the game, in this case, Hockey. Through the comparison between two situations of game: the formal game and game in (Mini-Hockey) in the “under 8” and “under 10” levels. Our objective is to verify if the reduction of field dimensions in these levels of formation, promotes a greater action in technical-tactical terms by these players, achieving a better understanding of the game. The method used was video recording of nine hockey games, five regular games and four mini-hockey games, and the data regarding of passes, shots and number of goals were recorded. We used statistical software SPSS version 20.0 where descriptive statistics, means and standard deviations, as well as nonparametric Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney U test were used. The significance level was set at p ≤ 0.05, which allowed us to verify if there is statistical significance between the variables analyzed. In the five regular games were registered a total of 1214 passes, 229 shots and 54 goals. In the results of the mini-hockey games a total of 578 passes, 286 shots and 84 goals were recorded. With these results we may conclude that Mini-hockey promotes a greater technical-tactical action in these formation levels, with greater ball interaction, becoming an excellent teaching-learning stage for the formal 5x5 game in the field of official dimensions.
Título: Pre-competitive anxiety: a comparative study between «under 12» and senior teams in football
Autor: Serrano, João; Reis, Rui; Fonseca, Teresa; Paulo, Rui; Honório, Samuel; Batista, Marco
Resumo: The present investigation intends to study if the importance and the difficulty of the game, if the pre-competitive anxiety
(somatic and cognitive) and the levels of self-confidence in football were influenced by the competitive level (Under 12s and Seniors) and
where the game took place (home / outside) and to verify the correlations between these variables. The sample was intentional and
consisted of 85 male athletes, participants in the regional championship of «Under 12s» and Seniors. The «Under 12s» athletes (35) were
aged between 11 and 12 years (M = 11.02 ± 0.37) and the Senior athletes (50) were aged between 18 and 35 years (M = 26.66 ± 4.41).
The instrument used was the Competitive State Anxiety Inventory (CSAI-2) of Martens et al. (1990) and translated and validated into the
Portuguese language by Raposo & Fernandes (2004). Regarding statistical procedures we tested the sample distribution through the
Kolmogorov-Smirnov Test. For a normal distribution, we used the T-student parametric test for independent samples. Correlations
between the variables were determined using the Pearson correlation coefficient, and we applied linear regression according to the
variable’s importance and difficulty of the games for both age groups. We also applied an inferential method based on the magnitude of
effects through d-Cohen and r-Cohen. We adopted a significance level of p dŠ 0.05. The results showed that, regardless of the competitive
level (Under 12s or Seniors), athletes attributed high levels of importance and difficulty to games played both at home and outside. The
levels of importance and difficulty of the games, as well as the levels of cognitive and somatic anxiety were higher in the Under 12s teams,
although without significant differences compared to Seniors’ teams, whereas the levels of self-confidence were significantly higher in the
Seniors’ teams. In both groups positive correlations were observed between the difficulty of the game and its importance, promoting
these variables in general terms and in both levels an increase of anxiety and a decrease in self-confidence. The results were abounding that
the importance and the difficulty of the games explain residually in the levels of Under 12s and Seniors the states of anxiety and selfconfidence.; El presente estudio tiene como objetivos verificar si la importancia del juego, la dificultad del juego, la ansiedad precompetitiva

Autor: Tavares, Óscar; Duarte, João; Costa, Daniela; Sousa-e-Silva, P; Martinho, Diogo; Lus, Leonardo; Duarte-Mendes, Pedro; Valente-dos-Santos, J.; Conde, Jorge; Casanova, José; Cyrino, E.S.; Coelho-e-Silva, Manuel
Resumo: OBJECTIVE:

The current study was aimed to examine intra-individual variation on indicators of bone health in addition to whole-body plus appendicular tissue measurements using two concurrent assessments based on pencil beam and fan beam dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) systems in adult athletes from several sports.

METHOD:

Thirty-two male participants (27.6±10.1 years) were measured on anthropometry including multifrequency bioelectric impedance and air-displacement plethysmography. Bone mineral content (BMC), bone area, fat and lean soft tissue were derived using pencil beam (Lunar DPX-MD+) and fan beam (Lunar iDXA) absorptiometry. Bone mineral density (BMD) was obtained for the femoral neck, trochanter and triangle of ward. Finally, the right thigh was defined as a region of interest (ROI). Analyses comprised intra-class correlation (ICC), Effect size (d) from mean differences of repeated measurements, coefficient of variation (CV)

RESULTS:

ICC were >0.900 for all measurements. Intra-individual differences were large for BMC (d=1,312; CV=2,7%), bone area (d=1,761; CV=2,7%), fat tissue (d=1,612; CV=11%) and all indicators of appendicular lean soft tissue (d=1,237-1687; CV=2,0-4,1%). A very large difference (d=4,014; CV=8.4%) was diagnosed for lean soft tissue of the ROI.

CONCLUSION:

Although differences among concurrent instruments for BMC and bone area, the effect size of mean differences was negligible for BMD. Fat and lean soft tissue derived from DXA should be interpreted as reference values (not criterion) due to equipment-related variation, more apparently in the ROI values.

Autor: Rodrigues, Luísa; Pires, Ana; Borrego, C.; Duarte-Mendes, Pedro; Teixeira, D. S.; Moutão, João; Monteiro, Diogo
Resumo: Self-Determination Theory (SDT) is amongst motivational frameworks the most popular and contemporary approach to human motivation, being applied in the last decades in several domains, including sport, exercise and physical education (PE). Additionally, Achievement Goal Theory (AGT) has presented evidence of how contextual factors may influence student’s behavior in this particular context. The main purpose of this study was to analyze the motivational climate created by the teacher in the classroom, students’ satisfaction of Basic Psychological Needs (BPN), and how their behavioral regulation could explain PE grades and intention to practice sports in the future. Method: A total of 618 students (290 female; 328 male) from the 6th to the 9th school level, aged between 10 and 18 years (M = 13.3; SD = 1.7) participated in this study. The following surveys were used for the proposed variables: Learning and Performance Orientations in Physical Education Classes Questionnaire (LAPOPECQ); the Basic Psychological Needs in Exercise Scale (BPNESp); and the Perceived Locus of Causality (PLOCp). Intentions to practice sport/physical activity in the future were assessed through a single item. Students’ PE grade was obtained through his/her teacher final assessment. Structural Equation Analysis was performed via AMOS 23.0. Results: After analyzing modification indices and model adjustment, the final model emerged: learning climate > BPN > autonomous motivation > intentions/PE grade. Results interpretation seems to indicate that i) the satisfaction of BPN are influenced by motivational climate (i.e., learning climate), ii) the individuals’ motivation is influenced by the satisfaction of three basic psychological needs (i.e., particularly competence), and iii) the motivational regulations have direct and significant effects with intention to practice sports outside school in the future and PE grades. Discussion & Conclusion: The main results showed that a climate oriented for learning has a positive impact on basic psychological needs satisfaction of students. However, only competence satisfaction had a significant positive relationship with students’ autonomous motivation, which in turn had a significant positive relation with PE grade, as well as for intentions for leisure-time sport/physical activity practice.
