Abstract: The report presented comes from the Curricular Unit of Supervised Teaching Practice of the master’s degree in Music Education, option in Instrument - Clarinet and Ensemble Music. It reports the pedagogical practice of a clarinet student and the Clarinet Ensemble at the Castelo de Paiva Music Academy during the 2022/2023 academic year. The purpose of this report is to document music teaching practice, focusing on both individual teaching and ensemble music practice. In the first part of the report, evidence of pedagogical practice is provided, along with appropriate planning and pertinente reflections for the document prepared. In the second part, given the realisation that ensemble playing is a fundamental elemento for the development of students' musical and personal skills, this investigation aims to demonstrate how the practice of ensemble music influences individual performance. The main objective of this study was to understand the importance of the ensemble music subject. Thus, the guiding research question was: "Does the ensemble music subject contribute to the personal, social, instrumental, and artistic development of students?" For data collection, instruments such as literature reviews and questionnaire directed to the students, from basic level to master's, were used. In an informal setting, knowledge was also acquired through the experience and example of the cooperating teacher. The results of this supervised intervention project met the initial expectations, highlighting that motivation is considered, for the most part, the key to success in students’ musical development. Therefore, students consider ensemble practice as relevant. The results obtained from the survey indicated that ensemble music practice can have a significant impact on students' motivation and development, with clear repercussions on the study of the instrument. Moreover, it was possible to conclude that students’ participation in esemble music can be a determining fator in increasing students' motivation, improving their perspective on musical learning. This fact suggests that ensemble music practice should be seen as na essential pillar in the dynamics of specialised music schools and as na importante subject in the curriculum of this education.
