- Child and juvenile delinquency and its taxonomy of Father António d'Oliveira (1867-1923) in the context of the 1st Portuguese RepublicPublication . Martins, Ernesto CandeiasThe historical-descriptive and documental study, based on the hermeneutic methodology of the writings of Father Oliveira, covers the beginning of the 20th century and falls within the scope of the History of Social Education. The hermeneutic analysis wanders among primary and secondary sources on that pedagogue related to child protection, pedagogy of delinquency and juvenile criminality and reeducation. The following objectives guide us: to revisit the thought of Father Oliveira as a child protector and social pedagogue historically; to analyse the assumptions of the Childhood Protection Law of 1911; to describe his taxonomy of institutionalised delinquent minors, the fruit of his observations and experiments. He was the mentor of child protection in Portugal, a social reformer on the issues of delinquency and marginality, and a social educator in the intervention with minors institutionalised in the houses of correction, having given a significant contribution to the History of Child Care and the History of Social Education, in Portugal.
