A pesquisa seguiu o modelo Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) e o mĂ©todo do Instituto Joana Briggs (IBJ), incluindo artigos publicados entre 2015 e 2025, nas bases de dados PubMed, Web of Science e Scopus.
Abstract: This clinical practice report was developed within the scope of the 11th Master's Degree in Palliative Care (MCP) at the Dr. Lopes Dias School of Health (ESALD), Polytechnic Institute of Castelo Branco (IPCB). Its purpose is to provide a critical reflection of the competencies acquired in the field of ââPalliative Care (PC) and to presente an intervention project on palliative acre and quality of life in people with advanced dementia. The research component consists of a systematic literature review aimed at identifying the available evidence regarding the effects of palliative care on the quality of life of people with advanced dementia. The review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) guidelines and the Joana Briggs Institute (IBJ) methodology, including articles published between 2015 and 2025 retrieved from the PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus databases. Following a rigorous screening and selection process, six primary studies conducted in different clinical settings were included. The findings demonstrate a positive association between the involvement of specialised palliative care teams and improvements in the quality of life of people with advanced dementia. A multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary person- and family-centred approach, emerged as a key element in promoting the humanisation of care and respecting individual end-of-life preferences. Despite the identified limitations, the available evidence supports the crucial role of palliative care in improving the quality of life, comfort, and dignity of people with advanced dementia. It is concluded that the early and systematic integration of palliative care throughout the disease trajectory constitutes an essential strategy for delivering more humane, person-centred healthcare.
