Abstract(s)
A exploração destas duas áreas
O principal objetivo deste trabalho consiste
Abstract: In this paper we present a comparative study between two ancient mining of uranium, currently abandoned, located in uranium region of the Beiras. Canto Lagar mine is located in the Beira plateau, near Gouveia (Guarda district), while Mondego Sul mine is located further west, near the village of Ázere (Coimbra district). The exploitation of these two open mining areas occurred between 1987 and 1991, with a production of almost 90 tons of materials, which rejected are stored in heaps without any environmental intervention plan. The main objective of this work is the identification and comparison of the main environmental vulnerabilities and risks of mining uranium activities in both areas of study, particularly at the level of the soil in their surroundings. The results were obtained from soil samples taken in the area of influence of the mines and the amount thereof. The soils collected in the area of influence of these mines are contaminated and cannot be used for any purpose, according to the maximum concentration limits defined for public and residential areas as well as commercial and industrial sites. Mondego Sul mine will be more problematic in relation to Canto Lagar mine due to its geographical location with the Mondego River.
