ABSTRACT: The development of equality between men and women is recognized internationally, within the framework of Human Rights, and at national level within the Constitution of the Republic and the policies and practices of different bodies and companies. However, while there has been progress towards gender equality, women continue to perceive that there is a lack of recognition and social awareness of their work. This perception tends to worsen or to feel deeper in a region of the interior of the country where gender and professional segregation still follows a traditional mentality. In this sense, this research main objective is to investigate the perception of gender equality at work in the municipality of Oleiros. A quantitative methodology was followed and data were collected on 154 workers from the municipality of Oleiros, from different companies and professions, and the statistical analysis of these data was done using SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences), version no. 23. Favorable results were achieved with regard to gender equality in the municipality. Although the study shows that companies do not allocate money for gender equality measures or actions, and that most leadership positions are held by men, this study has also demonstrated positive aspects such as the fact that companies ensure in their wage policy the principle of “equal pay for equal work or work of equal value”. However, as evidence of the study, evidence suggests that it is necessary, as adoptive enterprises, to promote gender equality in order to improve organizational performance.
