Abstract(s)
O presente estudo analisa o impacto da liderança virtuosa no desempenho individual dos colaboradores, assim como o papel mediador do empenhamento afetivo na referida relação. A amostra é constituída por 370 indivíduos oriundos de diversas organizações portuguesas. Os resultados sugerem que (i) a liderança virtuosa explica o desempenho individual, bem como o empenhamento afetivo, (ii) o empenhamento afetivo explica o desempenho individual, (iii) a relação entre a liderança virtuosa e o desempenho individual é totalmente
mediada pelo empenhamento afetivo. Pesem embora as limitações do estudo, a evidência empírica ajuda a compreender que as organizações, e designadamente os líderes, podem promover uma força de trabalho afetivamente empenhada e com melhores níveis de desempenho individual, se fomentarem as virtudes (e.g., coragem, temperança, justiça, prudência e humanidade) no exercício da liderança.
Abstract: This study seeks to examine the impact of virtuous leadership on individual performance of employees, and the mediator role of affective commitment in the mentioned relationship. The sample comprises 370 individuals from different Portuguese organizations. The findings suggest that (i) virtuous leadership explains individual performance and affective commitment, (ii) affective commitment explains individual performance, (iii) the relationship between virtuous leadership and individual performance is totally mediated by affective commitment. Despite the limitations of the study, the empirical evidence helps to understand that organizations, and in particular leaders, can promote emotionally committed employees who exhibit high levels of performance, if the leaders encourage virtues (e.g., courage, temperance, justice, prudence, and humanity) in the exercise of their leadership
