Este trabalho de projeto visa abordar as representações sociais dos jovens sobre o envelhecimento.
De forma a contextualizar o objeto de estudo deste trabalho, começa-se por apresentar a definição de representação social, os estereótipos sobre os idosos e os papéis sociais dos idosos na sociedade. Atendendo à importância da intergeracionalidade e à diversidade de formas que toma, torna-se crucial estudar a educação intergeracional. Neste estudo será dada particular atenção à educação intergeracional nas escolas de forma a atenuar as representações negativas e discriminatórias que os jovens têm sobre o grupo dos idosos.
Este projeto procura conhecer e compreender melhor de que forma os jovens percecionam o seu próprio processo de envelhecimento, como veem a população idosa atualmente, ou seja, quais as características que a define, e analisar e comparar se a imagem do jovem sobre o idoso se modifica consoante as escolas e os diferentes meios em que estão inseridos (meio urbano vs meio semiurbano/rural).
Assim sendo, foram delimitados os seguintes objetivos do estudo: a) verificar como o jovem imagina/vê o seu próprio processo de envelhecimento; b) conhecer e analisar a representação dos jovens sobre o idoso no contexto urbano vs. semiurbano/rural; c) verificar se os jovens têm contacto com a população idosa; d) analisar se os jovens consideram importante/relevante a educação para o envelhecimento e e) analisar se as escolas promovem abordagens sobre o envelhecimento (como por exemplo: palestras, debates, formações, entre outros).
Os resultados apontam para um contacto regular, pelo menos uma vez por semana, com um indivíduo com mais de 65 anos de idade, o que se traduz em aspetos positivos tanto para os jovens, de modo a atenuar os estereótipos e a discriminação para com o idoso, bem como também para com a população idosa, de forma a promover a sua inclusão na comunidade e na sociedade contemporânea.
Deste modo, foi proposto um projeto de intervenção que visa a promoção da educação para o envelhecimento, bem como combater a discriminação para com a população idosa.
Abstract: This project work aims to address the social representations of young people about aging. In order to contextualize the object of study of this work, we begin by presenting the definition of social representation, the stereotypes about the elderly and the social roles of the elderly in society. Given the importance of intergenerationality and the diversity of forms it takes, it becomes crucial to study intergenerational education. In this study, particular attention will be given to intergenerational education in schools in order to mitigate the negative and discrimininatory representations that young people have about the elderly group. This project seeks to know and better understand how young people perceive their own aging process, how they see the elderly population today, that is, what characteristics define it, and analyze and compare whether the image of young people about the elderly is changes depending on the schools and the different environments in which they are inserted (urban environment vs semiurban/rural environment). Therefore, the following objectives of the study were delimited: a) to verify how young people imagine/see their own aging process; b) know and analyze the representation of young people about the elderly in the urban context vs. semiurban/rural; c) check whether young people have contact with the elderly population; d) analyze whether young people consider education for aging to be important/relevant and e) analyze whether schools promote approaches to aging (such as: lectures, debates, training, among others). The results point to regular contact, at least once a week, with an individual over 65 years of age, wich translates into positive aspects for both young people, in order to mitigate stereotypes and discrimination towards the elderly, as well as towards elderly population, in order to promote their inclusion in the community and contemporary society. In this way, an intervention project was proposed that aims to promote education for aging, as well as combat discrimination against the elderly population.
