Abstract(s)
Abstract: Due to the growing number of elderly people and consequently the demographic aging of the Portuguese population, especially in rural areas, it is essential that measures and strategies are created that can accompany the needs of the elderly and future elderly, so that they can live with quality of life. This project work focuses precisely on the survey of the needs and expectations of the elderly and future elderly people in the Parish of São Vicente da Beira, in the Municipality of Castelo Branco, where their perceptions will be analyzed and evaluated and then intervention axes will be outlined that respond to the diagnosis /survey carried out. In this study, 66 individuals were interviewed, divided into two groups, one aged between 50-64 years (22 respondents), and the other aged over 65 years (44 respondents), using two data collection instruments validated and used in the PerSoParAge project (POCI-010145-FEDER-023678), from the Polytechnic Institute of Castelo Branco. After analyzing and discussing the results, it was possible to reach some conclusions, highlighting that the youngest respondents aged between 50-64 years old have higher levels of education than those in the group aged 65 and over, have incomes that reach just for expenses while older individuals manage to have more than just to cover expenses. They are not concerned about their real needs, however, like the group aged 65 and over, they prefer to live at home, or that there are alternatives such as Home Support, so that they can grow old in their places. Respondents between 50-64 years old face their own aging with concern and fear, whereas the older ones face it in a more natural and optimistic way. Individuals aged 65 and over almost never feel alone and have great support from their partners and/or children. However, their homes and place of residence do not meet their real needs and present some problems. Study results appreciated by some surveyed age groups, namely in housing, social and health services, isolation and loneliness. In this way, Proposals for Intervention were carried out to address these problems, particularly the optimization and training of existing resources and institutions in the parish, the creation of a support network with various entities of the Parish, which will meet as a council to being able to intervene in several complex axes of the population, designing a multidisciplinary team that can not only listen to the elderly but also carry out various recreational activities with them, create a more participatory and active community, for a successful and quality active aging of life.
