Este estudo qualitativo exploratĂłrio, realizado no concelho de Castelo Branco, centra-se nas necessidades das cuidadoras de pessoas com demĂȘncia, um tema de crescente relevĂąncia na ĂĄrea da Gerontologia Social. A demĂȘncia nĂŁo apenas afeta diretamente os indivĂduos diagnosticados, mas tambĂ©m impĂ”e significativas exigĂȘncias emocionais, fĂsicas e sociais aos seus cuidadores informais, geralmente familiares. O objetivo principal deste trabalho Ă© compreender essas necessidades e identificar possĂveis intervençÔes que possam melhorar a qualidade de vida tanto dos cuidadores quanto das pessoas sob seus cuidados. A metodologia adotada foi fundamentada no mĂ©todo de Quivy, permitindo uma abordagem estruturada e rigorosa na coleta e anĂĄlise dos dados. Para a realização do estudo, foram conduzidas entrevistas semiestruturadas com as cuidadoras, complementadas pela aplicação de um questionĂĄrio anĂłnimo. Este questionĂĄrio incluiu o instrumento de avaliação da sobrecarga do cuidador "QASCI", que possibilitou quantificar e avaliar a intensidade da sobrecarga experienciada pelas cuidadoras. Todos os dados foram tratados de forma a garantir a confidencialidade e o anonimato dos participantes, identificando-os apenas por letras. Os resultados da pesquisa revelaram um panorama complexo das dificuldades enfrentadas por estas cuidadoras. Muitas expressaram sentimentos de sobrecarga, isolamento social e falta de apoio emocional. As entrevistadas relataram, ainda, a necessidade de formação e informação sobre a demĂȘncia e os cuidados adequados, bem como o desejo por redes de apoio mais estruturadas. As dificuldades financeiras e a precariedade dos serviços disponĂveis na regiĂŁo tambĂ©m emergiram como fatores que agravam a situação das cuidadoras. A anĂĄlise dos dados permitiu refletir sobre as principais questĂ”es que afetam a vida das cuidadoras e a qualidade dos cuidados prestados. A partir dessas reflexĂ”es, foram propostas soluçÔes viĂĄveis e açÔes coordenadas que visam melhorar o suporte a essas cuidadoras. Destaca-se a importĂąncia de implementar polĂticas pĂșblicas que promovam a formação de profissionais na ĂĄrea, a criação de serviços de apoio psicolĂłgico e social, e a promoção de grupos de apoio entre cuidadoras. Este estudo sublinha a necessidade urgente de um olhar mais atento Ă s condiçÔes de vida das cuidadoras de pessoas com demĂȘncia no concelho de Castelo Branco. A promoção de uma vida digna e de qualidade para todos os envolvidos Ă© uma responsabilidade coletiva que deve ser abordada por meio de polĂticas pĂșblicas eficazes, formação adequada e redes de apoio que considerem as especificidades e desafios enfrentados por essas cuidadoras. A pesquisa contribui para o entendimento das demandas sociais na gerontologia e reforça a importĂąncia de açÔes que promovam o bem-estar e a dignidade dos cuidadores.
Abstract: This exploratory qualitative study, conducted in the municipality of Castelo Branco, focuses on the needs of caregivers of people with dementia, a topic of growing relevance in the field of Social Gerontology. Dementia not only directly affects the diagnosed individuals but also imposes significant emotional, physical, and social demands on their informal caregivers, often family members. The main objective of this work is to understand these needs and identify possible interventions that can improve the quality of life for both caregivers and the individuals under their care. The methodology adopted was based on Quivy's method, allowing for a structured and rigorous approach to data collection and analysis. For the study, semi-structured interviews were conducted with caregivers, complemented by the application of an anonymous questionnaire. This questionnaire included the caregiver burden assessment tool "QASCI," which allowed for the quantification and evaluation of the intensity of the burden experienced by the caregivers. All data were treated in a way that ensured the confidentiality and anonymity of the participants, identifying them only by letters. The research results revealed a complex picture of the difficulties faced by these caregivers. Many expressed feelings of burden, social isolation, and a lack of emotional support. The interviewees also reported the need for training and information about dementia and appropriate care, as well as a desire for more structured support networks. Financial difficulties and the precariousness of available services in the region also emerged as factors that exacerbate the situation of caregivers. The data analysis allowed for reflection on the main issues affecting the lives of caregivers and the quality of care provided. Based on these reflections, viable solutions and coordinated actions were proposed to improve support for these caregivers. The importance of implementing public policies that promote the training of professionals in the field, the creation of psychological and social support services, and the promotion of support groups among caregivers is emphasized. This study underscores the urgent need for a more attentive look at the living conditions of caregivers of people with dementia in the municipality of Castelo Branco. Promoting a dignified and quality life for all involved is a collective responsibility that must be addressed through effective public policies, appropriate training, and support networks that consider the specificities and challenges faced by these caregivers. The research contributes to the understanding of social demands in gerontology and reinforces the importance of actions that promote the well-being and dignity of caregivers.
