Abstract(s)
Abstract: The creation of the gaita repertoire in Asturias (Spain) is due, above all, to its use in festivities. This fact has served to create a solid musical corpus with which to implement the Official Music Education in 2006. The research attempts to analyse the origin of the works used throughout these studies (Elementary, Professional and Advanced Education). To do so, the methodology used mainly combines a quantita tive approach –with the aim of studying the number and geographical origin of the musical corpus used– and a qualitative approach, which allows –combining with resources from musical analysis– a first analysis of its typology and suitability to the aforementioned official education. After the analysis, the use of works for solo gaita, gaita and piano, or even electroacoustic music, where technical resources and structures foreign to the tradition of this instrument are used, has been found. As for the origin of the repertoire, the number of works of traditional Asturian music in the Elementary Level (GE) is 75%, in the Professional Level (GP) 96.7% and in the Superior Level (GS) 21.43%. This shows the reduction of the Asturian repertoire in favour of other repertoires, such as the traditional Galician (57.14% in GS compared to 3.77% in GP) or the incorporation of works of an academic nature (2.83% in GP and 21.43% in GS). The results obtained show a shortage of the Principality's own musical corpus to work on technical aspects, however, it can be a way of creating to expand the musical corpus of the gaita in Asturias.
