O turismo impulsiona o desenvolvimento de regiões, infraestruturas, acessibilidades, transportes e da própria comunicação. Contudo este setor, atualmente, está fortemente afetado pela procura turística. Todavia, o seu desenvolvimento futuro permitirá ocupar uma posição relevante dentro da economia Portuguesa, devido ao volume de receitas externas que proporcionará, ao emprego que criará e ao impacto económico que terá, quer a nível da Beira Interior Sul, quer a nível nacional. Esta investigação será desenvolvida seguindo a proposta metodológica adaptada de Gunn (2002), Cooper et al. (2007) e Cunha (2007), que sintetiza o sistema funcional do setor do turismo entre a procura turística e a oferta turística, mas entre as quais existem inter-relações com diversos elementos desse sistema que são influenciados e influenciam, de forma direta e indireta, o turismo. Em termos de resultados, esta investigação confirma que o turismo é essencial para promover os valores e costumes locais, estimula o crescimento da Beira Interior Sul, cria emprego, incrementa o comércio de produtos e serviços, promove o património cultural e natural, com o conhecimento mais profundo da região e das suas potencialidades e, não menos importante, movimenta fluxos monetários que dinamizam a região e Portugal.
ABSTRACT: Tourism promotes the development of regions, infrastructure, accessibility, transport and communication. However this sector currently is heavily affected by tourism demand. Its future development will occupy an important position in the Portuguese economy, due to the volume of foreign earnings which will provide, the creation of employment and economic impact it will have, both within the Beira Interior Sul at national level. This research will be developed following the methodological approach adapted from Gunn (2002), Cooper et al. (2007) and Cunha (2007), which summarizes the functional system of the tourism sector between tourist demand and the tourist supply, but among them there are inter-relationships with various elements of the system that are influenced and influence, directly and indirect, tourism. In terms of results, this research confirms that tourism is essential to promote the values and customs, stimulates the growth of Beira Interior Sul, creates employment, increases trade in goods and services, promote cultural and natural heritage, with the knowledge deeper the region and its potential and, not least, move cash flows that
