Abstract(s)
Abstract : In the last decades, many pedagogues have insisted on the importance of including improvisation and composition in music teaching. With the mass diffusion of written music, this kind of teaching in Portugal seems to have disregarded this more creative strand of music. The first part of this report describes the internship completed in the context of the Course Unit for Supervised Teaching Practice, in which we tried to use improvisation and composition for guitar and ensemble music teaching. The second part presents the investigation and consequent reflection on the theme The Importance of Improvisation and Composition in Music Teaching. With the fulfilment of this project, we established that creative capacity, whether in the form of improvisation or studied and written composition, is, by itself, significant and of value for the activity of any musician. We also came to the conclusion that this work enabled involved students to develop skills in various fields, including motivation, musicality, technique, mastery of the instrument, theory and musical understanding.
