Abstract(s)
Abstract This report is part of the Master's Degree in Music Teaching, carried out at the Escola Superior de Artes Aplicadas of the Instituto Politécnico de Castelo Branco and comprises two distinct parts. The first part consists of the presentation, description, analysis and reflection of the supervised teaching practice, which took place during the 2023/24 academic year at the S. José da Guarda Music Conservatory. The second part describes the research project entitled “The importance of basic maintenance of metal-bodied wind instruments”. The main objective of the project was to make students aware of the risks of lack of maintenance of instruments and to provide them with cleaning and maintenance methods and habits to apply in their daily lives. In the first phase, a survey was carried out among teachers in the area of metal-bodied wind instruments in specialised artistic education, through which it was possible to collect information about basic maintenance knowledge and cleaning teaching techniques for each instrument, as well as teachers' opinion on the importance of cleaning and maintaining wind instruments. Likewise, surveys were carried out among students at the Sã o José da Guarda Conservatory of Music and the Dã o Conservatory of Music and Arts, with the aim of understanding music students' knowledge about the importance of maintenance and assessing their interest. to hold a workshop. At the same time, two workshops were held, one in each conservatory. In the workshops, students had the opportunity to learn about some of the risks of lack of maintenance of their instruments and some simple and inexpensive cleaning techniques. The results suggest that the practice of cleaning instruments is somewhat neglected, but is considered very relevant for the prevention of serious respiratory infections.
