Abstract(s)

The first part provides a detailed account of the Supervised Teaching Practice conducted at the Conservatory – Professional School of the Arts of Madeira during the 2022/2023 academic year. The second part focuses on an action research study titled “Madeiran Traditional Music: A Pedagogical Resource for Introducing the Concept of Melodic Accompaniment in the Teaching of Classical Guitar at the 1st and 2nd Levels of Specialized Artistic Education.” The objective of this study was to analyze the feasibility and impact of using the traditional Madeiran repertoire on students’ motivation and technical progress. In summary, the data indicate that integrating Madeiran Traditional Music into classical guitar education not only facilitates the acquisition of essential technical skills but also reinforces students’ connection to their cultural identity. This pedagogical approach has proven effective in stimulating motivation and fostering a more engaging and meaningful musical practice. Consequently, this report contributes to the discussion on the importance of incorporating culturally relevant repertoires in music education, suggesting that a combination of tradition and innovation can help develop more well-rounded musicians who are conscious of their heritage.
