Abstract(s)

Xylella fastidiosa is an insect-borne plant pathogenic bacterium associated with serious diseases in a wide range of plants. This bacterium was detected in olive trees in Apulia, southern Italy, in October 2013, and was the first time the bacterium was reported in the European Union. Since then, it has also been found in Corsica and the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region of southern France and in Spain (Balearic Islands). Several control measures are being adopted to prevent the bacterium from spreading throughout the rest of Europe, particularly in Portugal.
