Abstract(s)
Abstract: The relationship between the optical effects of Op Art on the retino-neuro-physiological system, which allows the visual perception possible, are investigated in this article, with the aim of exploring and understanding the processes that trigger physical reactions and illusory sensations in the observer. Op Art highlights that reality, including science, is subjective. Visual perception is individual, each individual has their own perception and our retino-neuro-physiological system confirms the individual nature (subjective) of observation. Scientific laws are constructed, through our senses, as an observation, which differs from person to person. When observing optical effects such as moiré patterns, ghost images, after-images, equiluminant colors, the body and mind of the observer experience a new reality, which is unknown. Op Art demonstrates that there is not just one reality, but multiple realities and this enigma is the hallmark of Op Art.
