De um modo geral podemos definir os repositórios científicos, institucionais ou outros, como estruturas informacionais que agregam dados, metadados e documentos em um único local, permitindo que qualquer cidadão, com acesso à Internet, em qualquer parte do mundo tenha acesso aos seus conteúdos de forma livre e gratuita. Fundamentam o seu funcionamento no princípio do livre aceso ao conhecimento. Como qualquer
estrutura necessitam de ser cuidados e mantidos de forma a cumprirem eficazmente a sua missão no respeito pelos respetivos conteúdos, formas de acesso e, não menos importante, pelos autores, suas limitações e
indicações. Este trabalho pretende mostrar de que forma o Repositório Científico do Instituto Politécnico de Castelo Branco (RCIPCB) “cuida” dos seus conteúdos, dados, metadados e documentos tendo em vista a manutenção da sua integridade, fiabilidade e imagem para o exterior e quais os processos e metodologias utilizados na instituição na prossecução deste objetivo.
Institutional scientific repositories are structures that aggregate data, metadata and documents in a single location. They are very inclusive and allow any citizen with Internet, anywhere in the world, to access to their contents freely and free of charge. Generally, they provide access to the full text of the documents and follow the open access (OA) to information principles. In this way they allow users to read, to use, to download and reuse, the full text of their documents. Like any other informational resource, they need to be cared and maintained in order to effectively fulfill their mission. So, there are some curation activities needed to be done in order to guarantee big quality, reliability and confidence in the contents they provide. Present work aims to demonstrate the methodologies and the strategy used by the Scientific Repository of the Polytechnic Institute of Castelo Branco (RCIPCB) to “taking care” of its contents, data, metadata and documents. These were considered good practices to follow in the curation activities in order to improve and/or maintain the quality of their records with impacts also in the digital preservation of the information and documents they provide.
