Abstract(s)
Mestre.
This report was developed as part of the attendance to the 2nd year of the 7th Master in Palliative Care at the Escola Superior Lopes Dias of the Instituto Politécnico de Castelo Branco, with the aim of obtaining the Master’s degree. It is divided in three parts. The first part focuses on the characterization of the 300 hours fellowsheep held in a Palliative Care Team in the Northern Region, it also aims to describe the different areas of competence envisaged for this fellowship. In order to better illustrate the situations, clinical cases were used for each competency. Cases were chosen that created doubts, that were taken to clinical discussion or that marked my clinical path. The second part of the record is a systemic review of the literature on “The cost and cost effectiveness of home palliative care teams”, a poorly developed subject with little information available, as our research has shown. The third part of report deals with the research work “Direct cost of care of patients in end of live at home for the caregivers”, which aimed to characterize the direct costs of end of live patients in families accompanied by PC at home. It was found that the data were insufficient to record statistically significant differences, however it was noticeable beyond the emotional wear and tear, the great financial effort that families make for their relatives at this stage of life. And that there is a big gap in the knowledge about the families expenses and what support measures are necessary to get financial aid.
