Abstract(s)
Abstract: Based on previous research, in which an innovative technique was developed to replace traditional heat treatments for firing moulds, applied to metal casting, with conventional microwave ovens. With the aim of simplifying the infrastructures required to obtain artistic pieces in metal, a workshop with a pedagogical innovation character was held with several participants from different levels of higher education and links to artistic education, at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto. The main objectives were to analyse a real application scenario, with a survey of the workshop support needs and possible results, trying to understand the advantages and disadvantages to metal casting technology teaching/learning university context. In this sense, participants were also asked for information, through surveys, to better compare the level of knowledge before and after participating in the workshop and the relationship of comfort and perspicuity in learning in this context. This work managed to analyze and expose a concrete strategy adapted to higher education in artistic casting. This innovation strategy has been successfully disseminated in a specific context, expanding casting training to places where such training does not normally occur. Participants reported artistic casting learning as well as interdisciplinary learning and technical research methodology, as well as motivation to use new technologies after participating in this experiment.
