Abstract(s)
Abstract: The present Internship Report is divided into two parts. In the first part, a summary of the Supervised Teaching Practice is presented, which was carried out during the academic year of 2023/2024 at the Orfeão de Leiria Conservatório de Artes (OLCA), focusing on the Double Bass and String Orchestra A (Chamber Music) classes. In addition to contextualizing the city of Leiria and the OLCA, a synthesis of the pedagogical practice is provided, including the annual plan, a list of lesson summaries followed by detailed lesson planning and reflections on all observed classes. The second part contains the research project titled “A First Approach to Contemporary Music in the Basic Double Bass Course: Extended Techniques as Pedagogical Tools.” To this end, a Pedagogical Intervention Project (PIP) was developed, conducted with the double bass class at OLCA, aimed at assessing the benefits of introducing this language and repertoire to students in the Basic Course and understanding whether extended techniques can assist them in overcoming technical and/or musical challenges. In parallel, a questionnaire was distributed to explore the relationship of Portuguese double bassists with this language and extended techniques, and to gather the opinions of educators regarding the introduction of contemporary repertoire for students from grades 1 through 5. Through a literature review, an effort was made to provide students with greater knowledge on the subject, including explanations regarding the instrument's extended techniques. For the implementation of the PIP, several educational resources were developed, including 4 MicroStudies highlighting various characteristic aspects of contemporary repertoire. From the analysis of the results, we can conclude that there is space, relevance, and interest in teaching contemporary repertoire that encompasses extended techniques during the Basic Music Course, particularly for the musical, expressive, and creative development of students.
