Abstract(s)
We related the memories evoked from life reports of 7 retired primary teachers, who narrated (life reports) their representations as primary, secondary and primary magisterium students in the Estado Novo and, later, as a teacher in the exercise of their profession (teacher identity), in the period before and after 1974. We used a qualitative methodology, based on the biographical-narrative approach, in the construction of the life histories of these teachers, based on a phenomenological hermeneutics (being a teacher) and critical to the content analysis of their narratives. The technique of data collection was in-depth interview and participant observation (records in field notes), submitting the content of the narratives to categorization (analytical categories/subcategories) and interpretation in time and socio-historical context. The results demonstrated a relationship between the life histories and reminiscences reported in conjunction with the identity processes (biographical and relational), which allowed the construction of the path and identity of being a primary teacher, at that time and historical context. We were able to contribute to this study for the History of Social Education and History of Education in the period analyzed.
