Abstract(s)
Abstract: In the light of Jacques Rancière's thinking, enunciated in The emancipated spec tator and The future of images, specifically regarding the concepts of intolerable image, efficacy of art, dissensus and unrepresentability, we aim to understand how the 2006 documentary KZ articulates with the ideas of the French philosopher, potentially constituting an appropriate representation of monstrous events. This reflection, also considers the relevance of concepts proposed by thinkers such as Jean-François Lyotard or Jacques Derrida. The film, by British director of Jewish origin Rex Bloomstein, revisits the Mauthausen Concentration Camp, in Austria, from the perspective of the tourists who visit it, simultaneously highlighting the way in which the community in which it is located relates to the camp and its past. Unlike most documentaries of its genre, KZ does not use archival footage, has no narration nor survivor testimonies.
