- Análisis del tipo de técnicas, puntuaciones y sanciones en el Campeonato de Europa de Judo SeniorPublication . Los combates tienen una duración de cuatro minutos en ambos sexos, y cuando las puntuaciones o amonestaciones para ambos competidores son las mismas, se produce empate entre los judocas y el combate se decide mediante la Técnica de Oro. Es por ello que, la duración de los combates y de la competición, puede tener repercusiones en los judocas, tanto desde el punto de vista técnico, táctico, físico, fisiológico y psicológico, entre otros. Objetivo: El estudio tuvo como propósito determinar el predominio de las acciones técnicas, puntuaciones y penalizaciones en función de la duración del combate y la fase de la competición en el Campeonato de Europa de Judo Senior 2021. Metodología: Se observaron 398 combates en todas las categorías de peso y en ambos sexos (230 hombres y 168 mujeres). Para el registro de las técnicas se utilizó la clasificación Kodokan de judo. Se anotaron las puntuaciones y penalizaciones, a lo largo del combate y durante la Técnica de Oro, en las distintas fases de la competición. Resultados: La mayoría de los combates terminaron en el tiempo reglamentario (79,15%) y un menor porcentaje se resolvieron en la Técnica de Oro (20,85%). A medida que se avanza en la fase de competición hay una tendencia a que los combates se decidan mediante la Técnica de Oro. Conclusiones: El tiempo de combate y la fase de competición influyen tant o en el tipo de técnicas empleadas, las puntuaciones obtenidas y las penalizaciones recibidas.
- Analysis of the frequency and effectiveness of the technical actions used in the 2021 European Judo Championship according to the elapsed time of combatPublication . The interest of this study perspective, which allows us to interpret competitive action in more detail, is also important to reflect that according to the legal adaptations dictated by the rules of a modality, it makes its study necessary. The objective was to analyse the frequency and effectiveness of technical actions used in the 2021 European Judo Championship depending on the elapsed time of combat. The study sample focused on 400 combats of the European Judo Championship 2021, with 6731 technical actions in combat being categorized. We used an observation system created for this purpose, according to the classification system proposed by Kodokan. Cross-frequency tables were produced, where the association degree between variables was analysed using the Chi Square test, where the significance level was set at p ≤ .05. We complemented the association analysis between variables by calculating the adjusted standardized residuals. The number of technical actions tends to decrease over the 1st to 4th minute of combat and consequently also towards the golden score time. The relative percentage of technical actions scored from the 1st to the 4th minute of combat tends to increase, with the Ippon advantage assuming an increasing percentage trend and the Waza-ari advantage a decreasing trend, maintaining this trend in golden score.

In golden score, women showed a significant association with hip techniques and men with frontal sacrifice techniques. Female athletes proved to be more effective in percentage terms in the golden score phase.

The objective was to biomechanically analyse the technical actions used in the 2021 European Judo Championships based on combat time and gold score and verify the effectiveness of these same technical actions both genders. The study sample focused on 400 combats of the European Judo Championship 2021. We used an observation system created for this purpose, according to the classification system proposed by Sacripanti. Cross-frequency tables were produced, where the association degree between variables was analysed using the Chi Square test, where the significance level was set at p ≤ 0.05. We complemented the association analysis between variables by calculating the adjusted standardized residuals. In both genders and phases of combat, the use of binary techniques predominated over lever techniques, with the hierarchy of technical resources used by judokas being identical. In golden score, women showed a significant association with the use of trunk-leg binary techniques. Throughout the fights, women registered differences in the use of groups of techniques. The trunk-leg binary and minimum arm lever techniques revealed significant effectiveness in both phases of combat in both the male and female categories.

We complemented the association analysis between variables by calculating the adjusted standardized residuals. In both genders and phases of combat, the use of torque techniques predominated over lever techniques, with the hierarchy of technical resources used by judokas being identical. In golden score, women showed a significant association with the use of torso-leg binary techniques. Throughout the fights, women registered differences in the use of groups of techniques.
- Confirmatory factor analysis to validate the short version of the Ottawa mental skill for sports (OMSAT-3) in Portuguese athletesPublication . Silva, Carlos; Torres, Diana; Louro, Hugo; Borrego, Carla; Batista, MarcoIntroduction: The development of psychological skills plays an important role in improving performance and achieving excellent results in sports. Objective: The aim of this study was to validate the Portuguese short version of the Ottawa Mental Skills Assessment Tool (OMSAT-3). Methodology: By means of a confirmatory factor analysis (CFA), a total of 524 Portuguese athletes of both sexes aged between 12 and 42 (M = 19.21; SD = 5.46) were recruited for the present study. Results: The results indicate that the reduced version of the OMSAT-3 (30 items) has adequate psychometric qualities, enabling an assessment of Foundation, Psychosomatic and Cognitive Skills (SRMR = 0.052; CFI = 0.983; TLI = 0.979; RMSEA = 0.031 CI 90% [0.026, 0.037]; χ²/df = 1.52). There was high concurrent validity between the reduced version (30 items) and the full version (48 items). Conclusions: The results suggest that the reduced OMSAT-3 can be used with confidence to assess psychological skills in a sports context.
- Effects of inclination in Farmer’s Carry: muscle properties and strengthPublication . Machado, Renato Costa; Louro, Hugo; Freitas, João; Batista, Marco; Marinho, Daniel; Conceição, AnaIntroduction: The farmer’s carry is a loaded‑carry exercise in which an individual walks a distance while holding heavy loads in each hand, requiring substantial grip strength, whole‑body stability, and coordinated lower‑limb force production. Objective: This study aimed to examine the acute effects of a light‑load inclined farmer’s carry protocol on grip strength, rectus femoris muscle mechanical properties, and lower‑limb asymmetries. Methodology: Twelve healthy young adults completed a continuous treadmill walk at 4 km/h while carrying two 10kg dumbbells, progressing through five incline stages (0–8%), each corresponding to 50 meters. Grip strength and muscle mechanical properties were recorded after each stage during a 1‑minute rest. Results: Significant grip strength reductions were observed in both hands, with decreases of 10.10% in the dominant side (p < 0.05, η²p = 0.61) and 8.50% in the non‑dominant side (p <0.05, η²p = 0.41). Also, a significant decrease in logarithmic decrement was detected in the dominant side (p = 0.04, W = 0.19). At baseline, 0, 2 and 6% were also observed significant differences between the dominant side and non-dominant side in logarithmic decrement. Conclusions: Overall, inclined farmer’s carry efforts primarily induced peripheral, grip‑specific fatigue, with minimal alterations in rectus femoris muscle mechanical properties, supporting the use of inclines to safely increase task difficulty without excessive mechanical stress.
- Otava mental skill for sports 3 - validation and gender invariance for the portuguese versionPublication . Silva, Carlos; Torres, Diana; Louro, Hugo; Borrego, Carla; Batista, MarcoThe aim of the study was to validate the Portuguese version of the Ottawa Mental Skills Assessment Tool (OMSAT 3p) through confirmatory factor analyses of the measurement model, and gender invariance. A total of 524 Portuguese athletes (male and female) aged between 12 and 42 years old, participated in this study (M = 19.21; SD = 5.46). The main results show that the psychometric qualities of the 48-item OMSAT 3 are adequate and that it has acceptable validity, allowing it to assess Foundation Skills (SRMR = 0.042, CFI = 0.999, TLI = 0.998, RMSEA = 0.008 and χ2 /df = 1.46), Psychosomatic Skills (SRMR = 0.056, CFI = 0.979, TLI = 0.975, RMSEA = 0.042 and χ2 /df = 1.93) and Cognitive Skills (SRMR = 0.058, CFI = 0.973, TLI = 0.968, RMSEA = 0.044 and χ2/df =1.99). This version also showed adequate values for configural, metric and scalar invariance by gender (ΔCFI < 0.01) (ΔRMSEA<0,01). The Portuguese version of the OMSAT 3 can be used with reasonable confidence to assess psychological skills in a sports context.
- Predominant technical actions used in the European judo championshipPublication . Each weight category implies significant differences in technical and strategic dimensions, as well as physiological, performance, and body composition among com- petitors. This study aimed to determine the technical actions predominance used by judokas in the European Judo Championship 2021. We observed 398 judo combats, in the various weight categories male and female, disputed in the European Judo Championship 2021. It was used an observation system in accordance with the classification of judo techniques proposed by Kodokan. An observation system was used according to the Kodokan classification of judo techniques. In Nage-Waza combat, there was a predominance leg technique (Ashi-Waza), arm technique (Te-Waza), hip technique (Koshi-Waza), side sacrifice techniques (Yoko-Sutemi-Waza) and frontal sacri- fice techniques (Ma-Sutemi-Waza). When we focused our observation on the effectiveness of applied techniques, we observed more techniques scored with Ippon than Wazari. We can also observe that Shido was the significantly more recurrent punishment during male combats.
